(SOUTH BEND) - Honeywell Aerospace in South Bend has been awarded an $18.3 million, three-year contract to make aircraft brakes for the Navy.
The Navy contract, announced by the U.S. Department of Defense, calls for the South Bend plant to manufacture brakes for the F/A-18, a fighter and attack aircraft. Honeywell spokesman Scott Sayres told the South Bend Tribune on Monday that no jobs will be created because of the contract. He says it is an extension of the company's military contract for the F/A-18 aircraft.
The company has been involved in a months-long lockout impacting more than 300 workers at the plant. Negotiations on a five-year contract between the company and United Auto Workers Local 9 continue.
