New Gene Tests ID Cancer Patients Who Can Skip Chemo

Last updated on Monday, September 5, 2016

(UNDATED) - A new test could mean some breast cancer patients can skip chemotherapy without hurting their chances of survival.

According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, for nearly half of the women in early-stage breast cancer, chemo may not be effective.

Researchers used mamma-print tests to measure the activity of genes that control the growth and spread of cancer. They were able to identify women at risk of the cancer reoccurring.
