(Hobart/Lake Co.) - On Saturday, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Trooper Brandon Bohling was off duty driving his semi-marked police car south bound on Main Street near E. 2nd Street in Hobart when he saw an unconscious white male laying in the roadway surrounded by a few people.
Bohling stopped and got out of his police car to render first aid. The male was unresponsive. Bohling told an onlooker to call 911. An onlooker stated they had seen the male walking and then he collapsed.
Bohling and a Good Samaritan rolled the male onto his back. The Good Samaritan was instructed to start chest compressions while Bohling ran back to his police car to retrieve his Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The AED pads was connected to the male and it performed an evaluation advising that the patient was not shockable and advise to begin Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The Good Samaritan and Bohling both took turns doing CPR when an onlooker stated the male subject may have been choking. The male was administered the Heimlich maneuver. There were no items that were dislodged. The male was laid back on his back and CPR was resumed.
The male's face was blue at this time and the AED (pads still attached) advised it was doing another evaluation. It again advised the patient was not shockable and to do CPR. Bohling again resumed CPR.
A Hobart police officer arrived and took over CPR until Hobart EMS arrived on scene. The male was transported to Saint Mary's Medical Center in Hobart.
The male, later identified as 63-old-year from Hobart, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. His family has been notified.
