(MADISON COUNTY) - Two people were injured and a horse was killed after a hit-and-run accident involving a carriage.
18-year-old Darby Goyer was driving the carriage on County Road 300 E Thursday afternoon when it was rear-ended by a pickup. Goyer and a passenger in the vehicle, 65-year-old Stacy Scott, were both thrown from the carriage. Both were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The carriage was pulled by two horses. The sheriff's department says one of them, "Roman," had to be put down at the scene because of its injuries. The second horse was taken home.
Witnesses said that a dark colored pickup was involved in the crash. Officers were able to identify the vehicle as a Chevrolet Silverado from parts left behind in the roadway. The pickup was later found a body shop.
The sheriff's department identified the suspected driver of the Silverado late Thursday as Jason Eugene Moore.
