(LAFAYETTE) - Police in Lafayette are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found outside a home Wednesday night.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Hedgewood Drive and Ridgeway Avenue before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses directed police toward a home in the 1300 block of Ridgeway and said that's where they believed the shots came from.
Officers located a woman's body on the property; detectives and crime scene investigators were called to the site. Police are currently characterizing it as a death investigation.
According to the Lafayette Journal and Courier, the woman was identified by the coroner as Kristi Redmon, 52. Redmon was an art teacher for Lafayette School Corporation. She worked at Edgelea and Miami elementary schools, the Lafayette Journal and Courier reports.
Police have not yet released the woman's identity. The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office scheduled an autopsy for Thursday afternoon.
