(MARKLEVILLE) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a personal injury ATV crash that occurred Sunday afternoon.
Around 12:09 p.m. a 911 call was placed to Madison County Dispatch advising of the crash that occurred at 6827 S 300 E Markleville. When first responders arrived they found two individuals hurt.
The preliminary investigation revealed 49-year-old Erik Bielata of Pennsylvania was operating a 2013 Polaris 4x4 ATV with his 12-year-old daughter, Kennedy, riding as a passenger. They were on private property attending a family event, which included a hayride. The ATV collided with the rear of the hay ride wagon as both vehicles were traveling on a trail.
The collision caused the ATV to eject both Erik and Kennedy Bielata. Both subjects were subsequently pinned underneath the ATV and a witness was able to remove the machine from them. Both injured subjects were transported to St Vincent Anderson Hospital by ambulance, where they were treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.
Erik and Kennedy were not wearing any protective gear at the time of the crash. Indiana Conservation Officers would like to remind all people recreating with ATV's to don protective equipment, especially a helmet, prior to riding.
Assisting agencies at the scene included Madison County Sheriff's Department, Adams Township Fire Department, and Seals Ambulance Service.
