(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man accused of trying to cut an officer with a kitchen knife has been captured, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan police.
24-year-old Tyshune Neely was taken into custody by IMPD's Behavioral Health Unit, police said Wednesday afternoon.
Neely was wanted in connection with a Tuesday night incident. Around 7:30 p.m., an officer responded to the 800 block of North Bradley Avenue to investigate a mentally unstable person.
While taking a statement from the suspect's mother, police say the suspect Neely confronted the officer and then swung a knife.
The officer suffered a minor facial abrasion, but police say he is OK and is still working. IMPD identified the officer as Justin Callahan.
Police described Neely, who ran off after the encounter, as "mentally unstable" and said anyone who saw him shouldn't approach him.
"We want to treat everybody the same even when they have conditions that we need to be mindful of," said Capt. Michael Elder with IMPD prior to Neely's apprehension. "There is the potential for things changing, them getting upset."
IMPD said Neely was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment.
