(INDIANAPOLIS) - The timeline to replace Indiana’s ISTEP school test could change.
The 2015 General Assembly passed a law to eliminate the current ISTEP test. They mandated a new one be implemented by 2018.
WVUB reports that national experts spoke to the panel creating this new test, saying new tests need at least two years to implement. A new test plan needs to be developed and approved over ten months then state agencies should have at least one year to prepare its roll out.
That puts the process way past the 2018 implementation date set out in law. House Education Committee Chair Bob Behning says he'll reconsider the law he wrote.
The ISTEP panel will meet once more before voting on a final recommendation by December 1st.
