(JEFFERSONVILLE) - Jurors in southern Indiana have convicted an Underwood man of battery and neglect in the death of his 4-year-old son.
The News and Tribune reports that 28-year-old Christopher Bruck was found guilty on both charges.
Authorities say the boy died of serious head injury after the man struck him on the forehead with his palm in January 2015.
The prosecution said doctor reports and testimony from the trial, which began September 23, proved that Bruck intentionally struck his son.
Bruck's attorney said his client might not have injured the child, citing studies that brain bleed, which was discovered during the child's surgery, can be caused by falls, viruses and blood conditions.
Bruck is scheduled for sentencing November 7. He faces a minimum of 40 years in prison and up to 80 years in prison.
