(UNDATED) - Vectren has announced plans to install Automated Meter Reading devices throughout its coverage area in southeast and central Indiana.
Crews have already began to install transmitters in Bicknell, Edwardsport, Freelandville, Sandborn and Wheatland.
The transmitters will send data via radio signal to the Automated Meter Reading devices, which will be located in specially-equipped Vectren vehicles.
This will allow Vectren to read meters more efficiently, without issues such as weather, meter turnover or locked gates interfering with the process.
Most existing meter will be retrofitted with the new technology in the very near future, a process that will take as little as ten minutes and won't require any action from the customer if the meter is outside of the home.
