(VINCENNES) - Vincennes Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire to a former Second street business.
Firefighters were dispatched to the former "Club 202 Tavern" at 22 North 2nd Street around 8:45 a.m. Sunday.
Fire Chief Sonny Pinkstaff says smoke was bellowing from the building, as firefighters arrived on the scene. He says after making initial entry into the building, firefighters were forced to retreat.
Tower trucks with high pressure water hoses were used to extinguish the fire.
Units from the Vincennes Township Fire Department assisted in battling the blaze.
Utilities were disconnected to the block, causing some downtown businesses to lose power.
Pinkstaff says an occupant in an adjacent building managed to evacuate safely.
The building, which was constructed back in the 1800's, had been unoccupied for several years. An adjacent property owner, Bill Bristol, says the owner of the building had been making repairs to the interior of the building.
Pinkstaff says Layers Hair Salon and Kemp Music sustained extensive smoke damage as a result of the fire.
At this time Pinkstaff says the cause of the fire is being ruled undetermined pending further investigation.
