(NEW ALBANY) - A southern Indiana man has been charged with trying to hire someone to kill his ex-wife.
Floyd County prosecutors said Tuesday that Mark McCane of Floyds Knobs is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and theft of a firearm. Floyd County prosecutor Keith Henderson says McCane made three payments totaling $1,200 to a man to carry out the crime. Authorities say the man isn't charged and is cooperating with police.
According to an affidavit the man told police he never intended to hurt the woman and instead planned on taking more money from McCane.
Henderson says the former couple had an ongoing case in Floyd County over child custody. The investigation is ongoing.
McCane was expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. There was no answer at a phone listing for a Mark McCane in Floyds Knobs.
