(FAIRBANKS) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an injury sustained by 66-year-old James Wrightsman Sr., of Terre Haute.
Wrightsman suffered deep lacerations to his left thumb.
The incident occurred as Wrightsman and his son exited the Fairbanks Landing Fish and Wildlife Area where they had been hunting.
Wrightsman told police he was attempting to fire his crossbow to unload it. His thumb was raised above the flight groove, and was struck by the string as he discharged the crossbow.
Wrightsman was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
While the investigation is ongoing, Indiana Conservation Officers do not suspect any foul play.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, Fairbanks Fire Department, and Sullivan County Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
