(GARRETT) - Indiana State Police is investigating a shooting which left one person dead earlier Tuesday afternoon in the city of Garrett.
Preliminary investigation by Detective Jake Quick revealed at approximately 2:15 p.m., a 45-year-old male was discovered dead in his home in the 100 block of East Third Avenue.
Investigators later identified 20-year-old Branston Stone Secrest as a person of interest, and he was said to have been driving in a gray 2011 Ford Taurus.
At approximately 5:23 p.m., the Fort Wayne Police Department located Secrest's vehicle in the area of Coldwater Road and Coliseum Boulevard. It was reported that Secrest failed to stop and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. Secrest then stopped and ran from his vehicle in the area of Goshen and Harris Roads. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit at approximately 5:32 p.m. in the 3600 block of Harris Road.
At this time, no other information is available for release as crime scene technicians and investigators continue to piece together the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
Assisting are the Garrett Police Department, Auburn Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff Department, DeKalb County Coroner's Office, DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office and the Fort Wayne Police Department.
