(VANDERBURGH CO.) - The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Evansville man Friday for the death of a pedestrian on West Boonville New Harmony Road last September.
23-year-old Coleman Matthew Sheridan is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
Police say Sheridan struck and killed 51-year-old Janet Sue Gries of Darmstadt while she was jogging on September 20th.
The crash happened around 5 a.m. on Boonville-New Harmony Road near Gilles Lane, west of the 4H Center, in Darmstadt.
Police say Gries was jogging west on Boonville-New Harmony Road when she was hit by an eastbound truck, driven by 22-year-old Sheridan of Evansville.
Sheriff Dave Wedding says Gries was wearing a reflective vest. She died from internal injuries resulting from blunt force to the chest, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Lockyear.
Sheridan told authorities he looked down prior to hitting Griese after dropping a can of tobacco.
Test results showed Sheridan was under the influence of marijuana at the time.
He was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on $5,000 bond.
