(ELKHART) - Police in northern Indiana are scheduled to release the names of two officers who fired at a car after hearing gunshots, leaving a 29-year-old man dead.
Elkhart police and Indiana State Police, who took over the investigation, have disclosed few details about the death Sunday of Norman Gary. An autopsy Monday determined Gary died of a gunshot wound and the death was ruled a homicide.
State police say it likely will take at least several days before they receive results of ballistic tests to determine whether a police officer or someone else fired the fatal shot.
A news release says no specific details other than the identities of the officers will be disclosed during the news conference Tuesday. The officers were responding to a burglary report when they heard gunshots.
