(NEW GOSHEN) - Indiana Conservation officers responded to a call about an injured juvenile hunter who was admitted to Union Hospital with facial injuries.
The incident took place around 5 p.m. Sunday when the 17-year-old hunter attempted to fire his rifle, which exploded.
The teen suffered deep lacerations to his right cheek and possibly a fractured jaw. He was transported by family members to Union Hospital in Terre Haute, before continuing by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Indiana Conservation Officers are currently investigating the incident, but no foul play is suspected at this time.
Terre Haute City Police Department assisted at the scene.
