(SULLIVAN CO.) - Thursday morning from 7 a.m. till 10:30 a.m., Indiana State Police troopers from the Putnamville Post, along with officers from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and Sullivan Police Department, participated in a Christmas time sometimes known as “Shop with a Cop”. The event brings together the community, merchants, law enforcement and children.
During the event, children and their parents are teamed up with a law enforcement officer to shop for various clothing items that the little ones may need, especially this time of year. Officers also allow the children to purchase a toy item to add that extra smile. The kids are chosen for the event through the submission of names by local schools, law enforcement, and the community.
This annual event is all made possible by the generosity of Sullivan County area merchants, the caring nature of the community, and the willingness of the law enforcement agencies.
Participating for ISP were Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald, Detective Angie Hahn, Master Troopers Polly Blackburn and Tom Hanks, Trooper Brent Robinson, and Troopers Mike Taylor and Brad Miller; Sullivan County Sheriff's deputies Bill Snead, Sheridan Norris, Jeffrey Kinnett, Carl Melchert, Andrew Mattern, and Eric Valdez; Sullivan Police Officers Mike Garrett, Dave Story, and Spencer Brooks; and civilian participants Angie Melchert, "Santa" Mike Ladson, Amy Brooks, and Heather Fiddler.
