(MOORES HILL) - On Tuesday, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Indiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on Sparta Pike near State Road 350, which ultimately claimed the life of a Moores Hill man.
According to an Indiana State Police Trooper Andrew Garrett, a red 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan being driven by 47-year-old Rocky McMurray, of Aurora, Indiana was traveling eastbound on Sparta Pike when the vehicle crossed the center of the roadway into the path of a westbound 2005 Dodge Neon being driven by 48-year-old Steven Ahaus, of Moores Hill. The two vehicles collided nearly head-on in the center of the roadway.
As a result of the collision Ahaus sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner's Office.
McMurray was transported to the Dearborn County Hospital before being transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment of internal injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. McMurray tested over twice the legal limit on a preliminary breath test at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
At the conclusion of the investigation, it will be turned over to the Dearborn County Prosecutor's Office for the possibility of filing charges related to the crash.
The Ahaus family has been notified.
Trp. Garrett was assisted by Troopers Jacob Tolle, Jared Black, Kyle Stovall, and Nathaniel Dayadharum. The Dearborn County Sheriff's Department, Dearborn County EMS, Moores Hill Fire Department, and Dearborn County Coroner's Office also assisted in the investigation.
