(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and Main Street Greensburg announced a crowdfunding campaign that will involve installing art downtown in the City of Greensburg. The campaign is being offered through the crowdfunding platform Patronicity.
If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $32,500 by February 17, 2017 the Distinctive Place project will be awarded a matching grant with funds made possible by IHCDA's CreatINg Places program.

"We are pleased to support Main Street Greensburg in their crowdfunding campaign to add art to their downtown," said Jacob Sipe, Executive Director of IHCDA. "The addition of this artwork and the other improvements included in the campaign will go a long way in helping to beautify the city's downtown."
The funding raised during this campaign will allow Main Street Greensburg to install three new murals, 11 trash/recycling containers, nine wayfinding signs, and four benches in and around the downtown area.
The new streetscape items will be an expansion of existing items along Broadway, Lincoln, and Veterans Way. The benches, signs and trash cans will help keep the community clean and inviting, and make destinations easy to find, while the murals provide the city with much needed public art. Together these items will make Greensburg a more distinctive place.
"We couldn't be more excited to launch this project. It will help us create a place that makes our community ours," said Wendy Blake, Executive Director of Main Street Greensburg. "With the help of the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County we will be able to have pieces installed that are unique and representative of our community."
CreatINg Places employs a donation and reward-based method of crowdfunding called "crowdgranting". In crowdgranting, citizens actively support projects and activities through web-based donations which, if the fundraising goal is reached within a set time, are matched by a sponsor.
The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities or neighborhoods which contain a traditional downtown or traditional neighborhood commercial node. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.
Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
