(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Lt. Governor and Governor-elect Eric Holcomb named Elaine Bedel as president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), replacing Jim Schellinger who will serve as Indiana’s Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the IEDC in the new administration. Bedel plans to transition into her new role in February.
"Elaine's bold leadership and extensive experience as the owner of her own financial consulting company will be great assets to promote Indiana's positive business climate and jobs magnet reputation," said Governor-elect Eric Holcomb. "I look forward to working alongside Elaine and Secretary Schellinger as we continue to grow the state's economy and take Indiana to the next level."
Bedel currently serves as president and chief executive officer of Bedel Financial Consulting Inc, a role she has held since she founded the company in 1989. Previously, she served as the director of personal finance planning at Coopers and Lybrand. She is also the author of a personal finance book and is a nationally-recognized speaker, providing expertise at conferences hosted by Schwab Impact, the University of Indianapolis and the Financial Planning Standards Board.
"I look forward to working with Elaine to ensure that Indiana remains a state that works, supporting the growth of Hoosier businesses and attracting new companies to Indiana," said Schellinger. "Elaine's firsthand experience as a business owner and her considerable leadership in the private sector will make her a tremendous asset to the IEDC and to businesses across Indiana, strengthening the state's economic momentum and propelling Indiana to the next level."
Throughout her career, Bedel has been recognized for dedication to her profession and her community. Bedel was recognized as a 2014 Enterprising Woman of the Year by Enterprising Women Magazine and received a Trailblazer Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). She was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame by the Junior Achievement of Central Indiana and received the Financial Planning Association's "Heart of Financial Planning" Award in 2013.
Bedel is a graduate of Hanover College and earned an MBA from Butler University.
