(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Military Veterans Legislative Day Committee proudly announces details regarding the 2017 Indiana Military Veterans Legislative Day, hosted by Indiana State Representatives Jim Baird and John Bartlett, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 23 at the Indiana Statehouse.
This year's ceremony will feature many speakers, presenters and members from veteran service organizations and associations, elected officials, and current military members.
"This event gives military personnel and veterans the opportunity to interact with the legislative body," said Indiana Representative John Bartlett. "Lawmakers can meet with veterans to learn what issues are really important to them and what hopes they have for the state of Indiana."
This year the committee has organized a veteran march prior to the traditional events at the state house.
The Indiana National Guard has coordinated assistance with the veteran's march and event ceremony. Indiana Guardsmen from the 38th Infantry Division Band are scheduled to lead the march along with other reserve component members of the Indiana Joint Service Color Guard. The Indiana National Guard has also scheduled static display vehicles along the route to the state house and is coordinating support inside during the ceremony.
Marchers will begin at the Military Park Gazebo, located near 601 West New York Street in Indianapolis. The marchers will leave the gazebo area heading south on West Street, then west on Robert D. Orr Plaza toward the state house. The approximate walking distance from Military Park Gazebo is 0.37 mile.
Optional parking has been coordinated and will be free for the first 50 vehicles at the Riverwalk Parking Garage located just north of 250 Wabash St, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding any aspect of this event, contact Col. (R) James Leonard at: 317-602-3940 or email jleonard@j2ssllc.com .
