ISP Investigating Deputy Involved Shooting In Greencastle

Last updated on Friday, January 13, 2017

(PUTNAM CO.) - On Thursday at 11:18 p.m., two Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies, along with a Putnam County special deputy, responded to a 911 call from a girlfriend reporting a domestic disturbance with her live-in boyfriend at 6400 North County Road 490 West, in Greencastle.

Minutes later, deputies met with the female at a neighbor's residence just north of the victim's home. She had fled her home seeking help. During conversations with the female, officers noticed the woman had been injured during the domestic fight.

To follow-up on the allegations, deputies went to the 6400 N. 490 West residence to investigate. At the home, the two deputies and a special deputy knocked on the doors and were met at a southern lower level residence door by the suspect who was brandishing a handgun at the special deputy.

Another deputy fired two rounds from his service weapon striking the suspect twice in the torso. The special deputy did not discharge a firearm.

The 35-year-old suspect was initially treated by Putnam County Operation Life Paramedics and later airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of serious wounds.

The deputies were not injured and names will be released at a later time, as well as any other pertinent information.

There were two toddlers belonging to the couple in the home and they were unharmed and released to family members.

The lead investigator is ISP Detective Don Curtis. Assisting are ISP Detectives First Sergeant Jason Fajt, Detective Don Anglin, and Detective Mike Featherling; and Putnam County Sheriff Chief Deputy Phil Parker and other deputies.
