(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly Friday voted to confirm retired-General James Mattis to be Secretary of Defense and retired-General John Kelly to be Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Donnelly is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and questioned Mattis about implementing servicemember mental health programs and modernizing our missile defense programs and nuclear deterrent during his nomination hearing last week.
Donnelly said, "Both General Mattis and General Kelly have a distinguished record of service to our nation, and I believe they will provide the strong leadership we need in the face of today's complex national security challenges. I look forward to working with them to ensure our military and homeland security professionals have the resources they need to keep our nation safe."
