(BURNS HARBOR) - On Saturday at approximately 1:53 p.m. a general dispatch of an erratic driver was sent to Troopers along I-94.
The dispatch included a description of the vehicle and that it was traveling east bound on I-94 near Ripley Street. Trooper Potesta observed the vehicle in the left lane, changing lanes without signaling and observed the vehicle speeding from 50 mph to 110 mph. Trooper Potesta activated his emergency lighting and siren and attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The vehicle failed to yield and continued at a high rate of speed east bound on I-94, passing in and out of traffic lanes without signaling. The vehicle then attempted to exit at U.S. 20 in Burns Harbor. The vehicle failed to negotiate the ramp as it curved to westbound U.S.20. This resulted in the vehicle driving into the ditch, rolling over several times coming to rest on its wheels.
The driver, an unlicensed juvenile female from Illinois, was transported to Porter Hospital in Valparaiso, for treatment of her injuries. Injuries sustained are not considered life threatening.
Charges will be filed through the Porter County Juvenile Court.
The juvenile was in possession of her mother's car. The vehicle was towed to Gaston's Towing in Portage.
