(JASPER) - A Jeffersonville man is behind bars after stealing tools valued at over $1600.00 from Rural King in Jasper last January.
On January 20, Trooper Brock Werne began an investigation of a theft from the Jasper Rural King, in which three tool kits were stolen out the back door of the store.
Police learned the suspect placed the items in a shopping cart near the back door before asking to use the telephone near the gun counter. While on the phone, the suspect phoned his accomplice to go to the back door and grab the stolen items and placed them into a gold minivan and drove away.
With the help of Jasper Police officers, the trooper was able to identify the man on the phone as 37-year-old Joseph Zaepfel, of Jeffersonville. He was arrested Friday at his home after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He was transported to the Dubois County Security Center on a felony charge of theft.
