(VINCENNES) - March is recognized in Indiana as Disability Awareness Month. Led by the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities, the goal of Disability Awareness Month is to increase awareness and promote independence, integration, and inclusion of all people with disabilities.
On March 2, Vincennes University will celebrate Disability Awareness Month with a presentation by Ben Glenn, titled "Unlocking Your Inner Confidence and Potential by Embracing What Makes You Different." Glenn, also known as The Chalk Guy, will speak at 11 a.m. EST, at VU's Red Skelton Theatre and Performing Arts Center. The presentation is free and the public is invited to attend.
About the Speaker
Ben Glenn was diagnosed with a learning disability in while in the third grade. His presentation outlines the trials and triumphs that followed and offers insights about overcoming challenging times, learning to appreciate his unique talents and gifts, and recognizing the people who made a difference in his life along the way.
Part of his struggle with traditional learning led him to discover a love of art that he turned into a dynamic live-art demonstration.
As he openly shares his struggles, Glenn weaves specific issues into his own childhood experiences of unpopularity and teasing. Common themes include bullying, suicide, academic achievement, drug prevention, teamwork, and leadership. The final outcome of his presentation will be a large-scale chalk canvas symbolizing how to approach challenges with a positive attitude and view each struggle in life as a learning experience.
