(VINCENNES) - March 27 will be “Drum Enchanted Evening” as the Vincennes University Department of Music presents a concert featuring the VU Percussion Ensemble and guest performers from Indiana State University, Sean Cook and Zakk Huff.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) at VU's Red Skelton Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
The VU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Susie Jackson, associate professor of music, consists of ten musicians playing a variety of traditional and innovative percussion instruments. The group will perform various musical styles including jazz/fusion, classical, and the more contemporary novelty tunes performed in the style of STOMP which involves the use of unique or unusual objects as percussion instruments combined with visual performance.
The VU Percussion Ensemble will also perform April 5 at Center Grove High School in Greenwood as part of the Indiana Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion. The day-long event will feature clinics and performances by various percussion ensembles. Featured clinicians will be John Parks from Florida State University, concert percussion; Matt Savage from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, hand drums: Brian Mason from Morehead State University, snare drum; and Paul Wertico from the Pat Metheny Group, drum set. The Day of Percussion event is free and the public is invited to attend.
An evening drumline competition will feature Center Grove High School, Decatur Central High School, Franklin High School, and Legacy Independent. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and $5 for Percussive Arts Society members.
