(CLARKSVILLE) - Police say a 15-year-old southern Indiana boy has been charged with arson for starting a fire that caused damages as high as $500,000.
Clarksville Police Detective Ray Hall says the youth admitted using a lighter to set fire Wednesday to one of several hundred mattresses under carports next to a recreational vehicle dealership. Hall says he was curious to see what would happen. Hall said the youth has been cooperative.
Hall says the Campers Inn RV estimated damages of $400,000 to $500,000, including eight destroyed RVs and nine others that were damaged.
The News and Tribune reported Friday (http://bit.ly/2oIofH3 ) the mattresses belonged to the Clarion Hotel, which had placed the mattresses under the carports with plans to donate or sell them. The hotel reported damages of up to $12,000.
