(UNDATED) - In the wake of recent severe weather, Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill is warning Hoosiers to beware of persons or companies looking to assist them with home repairs caused by bad storms.
Hill says that property owners are vulnerable, making perfect targets for scammers pretending to offer help cleaning up wreckage and making necessary repairs.
Hill added that home owners should double check credentials, the company's name, reputation history and authenticity before writing a check to an individual claiming to represent such a business.
Hoosiers are also encouraged to contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Indiana Attorney General if they believe they have been scammed, or suspect someone may be trying to scam them after a severe weather event.
