Banks Congratulates Service Academy Appointees
Last updated on Friday, May 26, 2017
(FORT WAYNE) - Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) will welcome Class of 2021 service academy appointees to his Fort Wayne office on Friday, May 26 to congratulate them on their appointments to a U.S. Service Academy.
The event will be held Friday, at 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. EDT at Congressman Banks' office in Fort Wayne on South Harrison Street. The event is not open to the public.
Those being receiving appointments are:
- Abigail Peterson from East Noble High School received appointments to three different service academies, an extremely rare feat. Ultimately, she decided to accept an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy (USMA). She graduated in the top ten of her class at East Noble High School and received the Noble County "Top Honor" Community Scholarship.
- Steve Hoadley, a Huntington native, attended Huntington North and the U.S. Military Academy Prep School (USMAPS) before receiving an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy. Hoadley was one of only 1,197 students selected from a pool of more than 15,000 applicants.
- Wendy Samayoa, a New Tech Academy student at Wayne High School, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA). The USAFA only admits 1,226 students per year.
- Matthew Anderson will also attend the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), where he will play Division I college football. Anderson finished his 2016 football season at Homestead High School with 43 tackles and 4 interceptions.
The appointees will receive a high quality education and a thorough understanding of military culture at each of the service academies. Leadership and character development are deeply ingrained in the curriculum at each institution. The value of a service academy education is estimated at $400,000. Tuition, books, board and medical and dental care are paid for all four years.
This congratulatory event at Congressman Banks' office follows the Service Academy Day he held on April 29 at the Fort Wayne National Air Guard Base.
