(INDIANAPOLIS) — Police say a northeastern Indiana woman has died after a pickup truck tire went through the windshield of the SUV she was driving on Interstate 465 in Indianapolis.
The pickup lost a wheel Monday morning on northbound I-465 near I-74 on the city's southeast side. The tire bounced over a median wall into the southbound lanes, where it hit the SUV. State police say 43-year-old Crystal Emerick of Angola, was found unconscious with serious injuries and died at a hospital.
Police say one passenger in the SUV was also injured, but conscious and alert, while three back-seat passengers weren't hurt. Investigators are trying to determine how the wheel came off the truck.
