6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Pulled From Creek

Last updated on Wednesday, July 12, 2017

(GALVESTON) - Authorities say a 6-year-old boy has died after being pulled from water in north-central Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the boy was playing near a creek in Galveston on Tuesday when he fell into the water and couldn't be found. Rescuers searched for the boy and found him about 45 minutes after an initial 911 call was received.

The DNR says the boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name and cause of death weren't immediately released.

The boy fell into the water near a park in Galveston. Recent heavy rains have left many Indiana rivers, streams and creeks with high, swift-moving waters. The DNR notes that such waters are dangerous and should be avoided until floodwaters recede.
