(GREENCASTLE) - Indiana Conservation Officers continued their search this morning for the missing kayaker.
ICO's searched the banks of the Big Walnut Creek by foot as well as placing two Officers in kayaks within the safe zone below the low head dam. Water levels dropped approximately two feet since the incident occurred late Saturday evening.
At approximately 8:22 a.m., a body matching the description of the victim was located by ICO's approximately 600 yards downstream from the low head dam. The drop in water levels exposed the stream bed which allowed ICO's to safely search downstream from the dam.
The victim's family was on scene and positively identified him as 29-year-old Timothy Wells, of Indianapolis.
The death investigation is still ongoing. An autopsy is scheduled for today at 3:30 p.m. at the Terre Haute Regional Hospital. The autopsy will be performed by Medical Examiner, Dr. Roland Kohr. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department along with the Putnam County Coroner's office assisted in the recovery of Mr. Wells.
