(TERRE HAUTE) - Indiana State Police are working to make construction zones on Interstate 70 safer after three people were killed last week in two separate crashes in western Indiana.
The Tribune-Star reports that seven people have died so far this year in a 20-mile stretch near Terre Haute and Brazil.
Putnamville District Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Watts says drivers will see an increased trooper presence in the coming weeks. He says troopers will focus on speeding and dangerous and aggressive driving behaviors.
Officers are issuing tickets with a $300 minimum fine. They're also posting photos of traffic stops on Twitter to discourage speeding.
Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse says the department will help patrol a 15-mile stretch of the interstate in Clay County from Aug. 1 to Aug. 10.
