(UNDATED) - An estimated 44 million Americans currently owe more than $1.4 trillion on money they borrowed to finance their college or vocational studies, and nearly 50 percent of the student loan borrowers left school with a debt of at least $20,000, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Nearly 50 percent of borrowers are over 34 years old when they start repaying their student loans while the percentage of borrowers who begin repayment before their 25th birthday has decreased from 30 to 15 percent.
