(FORT WAYNE) - Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), the only Hoosier member of the House Armed Services Committee, is embarking on a three-day Indiana defense tour that begins today and ends Friday evening.
During the tour, Congressman Banks will visit military installations and industry partners around Indiana to showcase the importance of Indiana's role both nationally and locally in defense interests, research and development and technology.
"The Hoosier arsenal of democracy is a strong 21st century coalition of military installations, defense contractors, universities and state and local governments from all across our state," said Banks. "Joined together, these assets uniquely position Indiana to play a leading role in our country's national defense. I hope to learn more this week about how I can support our Hoosier defense industry in my role on the House Armed Services Committee."
On the tour, Banks will visit Grissom Air Reserve Base, Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis, the Indiana National Guard headquarters in Indianapolis, Camp Atterbury, Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Crane's Naval Surface Warfare Center and the Indiana Office of Defense Development.
Earlier this year, Banks worked to include several provisions that support Indiana's defense industry in the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The legislation passed the House 344 to 81 in July.
