(VIGO CO.) - Sunday at 5:05 p.m., Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency service agencies responded to a crash involving a semi and a passenger vehicle on I-70 near the 10 mile marker in the Westbound lanes.
The crash killed the driver of the passenger vehicle.
According to Indiana State Police, preliminary investigations revealed a gray 2009 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling westbound on I-70 near the 10 mile marker and for unknown reasons failed to stop.
The vehicle then ran into the rear of a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck.
The female driver, 25-year-old Kaylie J. Real of Miller, Mo., was transported Regional hospital where she later died from her injuries. Her 4-year-old son was also transported to Regional hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.
At this time, a preliminary investigation shows alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Justin Bell. Assisting officers were ISP Master Trooper Matt Ames, Sergeant Jim Cody, Trooper Tim Radar, Sergeant Joe Rutledge, Terre Haute Police Department and Terre Haute Fire Department.
