(UNDATED) - A settlement in a class action lawsuit against the Subway sandwich chain has gone awry. The fast food chain agreed to pay $525,000 to settle claims that it cheated customers because its popular “footlong” sandwich items were only 11 inches.
Talk Media News reports, the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals nullified the agreement because the consumers who brought the lawsuit received only a tiny share of the money while nearly the entire amount was paid to lawyers.
Circuit Judge Diane Sykes, who wrote the decision, said a class action that "seeks only worthless benefits for the class" and "yields [only] fees for class counsel" is "no better than a racket."
