(HYMERA) - Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a ATV crash involving injuries to two teenagers. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in a remote area on private property.
The ATV was being driven by a 14-year-old-boy who sustained serious head injuries when he lost control of the vehicle while climbing a hill, which caused the machine to rollover.
The teen was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he is still listed in critical condition.
The passenger was a 15-year-old boy who received minor injuries.
Indiana Conservation Officers located the boys based off of the GPS coordinates of an emergency cell phone call placed by the passenger after the crash.
No helmets were in use at the time of the crash. Indiana Conservation Officers highly encourage safe riding behavior and the use of safety equipment. On July 1, 2017 a new law came into effect requiring all off road vehicle users under the age of 18 to wear a DOT approved helmet while driving or riding.
Assisting agencies at the scene included: Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, Dugger Town Marshals, Sullivan County Ambulance Service, Hymera Fire Department and Shelburn Fire Department.
