(UNDATED) - Consumers are expected to spend a record $9.1 billion for Halloween costumes, candy, and pumpkins, the National Retail Federation predicted.
The amount is 8.4 percent more than last year's $8.4 million spending spree, which was also a record high for the holiday.
The NRF's annual survey estimated that 179 million Americans will celebrate the holiday, up from last year's 171 million, and 12.9 percent of respondents to this year's survey said their spending would be impacted by economic conditions, down from last year's 14.1 percent.
