(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Supreme Court has made a new ruling on the age of consent for sexual activity.
The ruling maintains it is still legal for those over the age of 18 to have sex with someone 16 years of age or older.
Despite this, it's a crime for an adult to send a sexually explicit photo of themselves to a 16-year-old.
The unanimous ruling means a Fishers man could be sentenced to three years for sending a sexually explicit photo of himself to an Oregon 16-year-old girl in 2014.
Sameer Girish Thakar's case had previously been dismissed, but the overruling of the sexual consent law says it's possible to comply with the statute, even if having consensual sexual activity with a 16-year-old.
