(VALPARAISO) - Indiana Conservation Officers have concluded the second day of the search effort for Keegan Whaling. Sonar searches and under water searches resumed at approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning and were unsuccessful in locating Keegan.
A massive effort from eight northwest Indiana fire departments and Indiana Conservation Officers today, included boat-mounted sonar searches of the north end of Long Lake and divers manually checking heavily weeded areas underneath the surface. Again, the search was hindered by the dense plant material with many divers finding themselves or their dive gear becoming entangled in it.
Due to the conditions under the surface of the lake, the search efforts are being scaled back and will include Indiana Conseravtion Officers checking the area by boat. Nearby residents and lake users are aware of the situtation and are asked to immediately contact Indiana Conservation Officers at 812-837-9536 if Keegan's body is spotted.
Indiana Conservation Officers have been assisted in this incident by the following:Porter County Sheriff's Office, Valparaiso Police Department, Cedar Lake Fire Department, Chesterton Fire Department, Crown Point Fire Department, Hobart Fire Department, Merrillville Fire Department, Portage Fire Department, Porter Fire Department, Valparaiso Fire Department, and Porter County EMA.
This is the last update to be provided until any other significant information is developed.
