(UNDATED) - In 2016, the Federal Highway Administration said, there were 221.7 million licensed automobile drivers in the U.S., an all-time record high.
Furthermore, 41.7 million - roughly one in five- of all U.S. drivers were 65 years or older. The 65-plus gang, is growing faster than any other age group, and they are far ahead of their teenage counterparts.
Talk Media News reports, all but five states - Michigan, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming - posted increases in their car-driving populations in 2016.
Also, last year, the nation's 112.1 million female drivers outnumbered male drivers by 2.5 million.
