(ANDERSON) - Police arrested an 8-year-old girl after she allegedly stole her mother’s vehicle and led officers on a cross-county chase.
According to police, the girl was shopping with her mom in Anderson when she drove off in her mom's Jeep.
The girl's mother contacted police, and officers spotted her on State Road 32. They initiated a chase, and the girl was driving erratically at speeds up to 40 miles per hour.
Ultimately, Anderson, Lapel and Indiana State Police cruisers boxed her in and slowed her to a stop in front of Ricker's Convenience Store in the 1700 block of Main Street in Lapel. The girl hit a Lapel police car, causing minor damage.
Police say the girl refused to exit, so they broke out a window to get her out of the Jeep. She suffered minor cuts and was treated on scene. Anderson police say charges are pending.
