(NORTH VERNON) - A gas station attendant was attacked from behind and struck in an attempted robbery in North Vernon, police said.
The attempted robbery occurred about 9:49 p.m. Thursday at the Country Mark Gas Station, located in the 500 block of West Walnut Street.
North Vernon police officers learned from an initial investigation that the station attendant was outside cleaning windows when he was approached, which turned into a physical confrontation, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, spokesman for the department.
The attendant suffered minor injuries in the attack, Richmond said.
The suspect fled the area in a red passenger car that had been parked in the rear of the store, he said.
Officers were able to recover a mask the suspect was wearing and a flashlight believed to have been used by the suspect, Richmond said.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the North Vernon Police Department at 812-346-1466 or 812-346-2345. People also can leave anonymous tips at the department's website, nvdp.org
