(INDIANAPOLIS) - Democrats at the statehouse in Indianapolis want to know if the state’s former top child welfare official’s claim is true.
Indiana House Democratic Leader Terry Goodin is calling for an investigation into Mary Beth Bonaventura's claims that a lack of state funding is putting children at risk.
In a blistering resignation letter, Bonaventura charges the administration has systematically slashed funding to the agency and damaged relationships with foster parents, placement agencies and treatment centers.
Goodin says it's troubling to hear that someone so close to Governor Eric Holcomb would leave her post out of fear that a lack of state action will lead to a child's death at some point.
Meanwhile, Governor Holcomb is brushing off Bonaventura's angry warnings.
Holcomb says he wishes the former Lake County judge well, and says he shares her commitment to children's well-being.
