(INDIANAPOLIS) - State lawmakers have filed legislation to make Hoosier roadways safer by banning the installation of unsafe, used tires.
State Representative Dan Forestal of Indianapolis says the bill would prohibit suppliers and retailers from installing damaged, worn out or improperly repaired tires.
Those that do could be fined $500 for each violation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says drivers are involved in 11,000 tire-related crashes every year.
