(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush will address the Governor and a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly for the annual State of the Judiciary.
The formal update on the work of the judicial branch will be held today at 2 p.m. EST in the chamber of the Indiana House of Representatives.
The Chief Justice is required to provide lawmakers with an update on the "condition of the courts" according to Article 7, Section 3, of the Indiana Constitution. The 2018 address "A Hope-Filled Future" will focus on the extensive reorganization of the judicial branch's administrative structure, expanding court technology, increased training for judicial officers, the opioid crisis, and the collective experience of the new five-member Court.
Trial and appellate court judges from across the state wear traditional black robes for the event. Appellate court judges are escorted by members of the General Assembly to the House of Representatives for the joint session.
The address will be webcast live at courts.in.gov. Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations (IPBS) will also air the address.
