(UNDATED) - Life expectancy for U.S. citizens in 2016 was 78.6 years, a decrease of 0.1 year from 2015.
It was the first time in 53 years that U.S. life expectancy decreased two years in a row.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, life expectancy for males dropped from 76.3 years in 2015 to 76.1 years in 2016, while life expectancy for females remained unchanged at 81.1 years.
